Pedro Caiado participated in the Art & Culture Exchange 2011. He Lives in Coimbra, Portugal, and is studying Arquitectura at FCTUC. When asked about his sketches and the exchange expirence, he was quite candid and open, “Well, then I will try to describe in the following lines what i think of what I tried to do while participating in the exchange.”
“I can clearly say that this Exchange was the one that helped me the most in my quest for the perfection in the art of drawing. Not only because I’m older and more conscious of my objectives but also because of the rich environment that was provided to the participants. No one can stay unaware of the beautiful city of Copenhagen with it´s geometrized plan, pointed by red brick churches that contrast with the living green of the oaks filling the streets. We can say that we are not in a city but in a garden, a garden-city suitable to every one’s life. The freedom given by the leading team of the project allowed me the opportunity to explore the city and develop my skills as an Architecture student, to be in touch with architectural tastes and styles that I’m not used to dealing with. This “quest” that I mention, is the endless seeking for the perfect connection between “form” and “function”. Pourer is the one who ever finds the solution, he won’t have a role in Architecture from that point on. That’s why I like to say that we are constantly unhappy because we are never complete, there’s always something to find, something to create. But I’m comfortable with my unhappiness, it´s the quest for something that makes a life worthy to be lived!”
The gallery is some of his sketches from the exchange and the mural his group painted during the exchannge, enjoy…
